Seems like doomsday's come early this year...

Characters: Those searching for the life support terminals
Location: All around Luministi!
Time: During the quick-time event
Summary: Time to find those terminals, reset them (all at the same time, mind!) and fix this! ... But is it really going to be that easy?
Warnings: None (yet?)

Six terminals, six parties looking for them, and time is running out. ... Along with any breathable air.

Following Proctor's instructions (and unfortunately limited memory), everyone looking for the important life support terminals would have to begin searching. Though they don't know exactly where each one is hidden, they knew they'll be in locations that were important to those originally in charge of the town. So, with a few locations in mind, at least they aren't blindly wandering the town. The idea is to split up, to try to get to the terminals simultaneously.

Still, they'd have to act fast. As time passes, it gets just that much harder to breathe, after all.

((OoC: Feel free to use this post to log out your adventures in terminal-resetting. ♥ Prose or [action brackets], probably doesn't matter. Go, go, go!))

"Haha! Yeah, it worked!"

Never mind that he was holding his breath for almost that whole minute. He's forgotten all about that already, until the reading kicks in.

"Wait- Food systems? This isn't going to get the air back on?"

"...Which I think we have covered, the timing I mean." Terezi replies as she begins to tackle rummaging through the other side of the room, and anything in the way (which may have been papers on the desk or otherwise) would be knocked aside. She mutters all along, making a note on how it's become a bit more difficult to breathe, "Either way, we're a good enough team that I don't see any of us making a dumb mistake or something. I just hope the rest of us are the same."

"Doesn't seem like it."

That felt slightly disappointing. Kon kind of wanted to be responsible for the air, but something was better than nothing.

He stepped to the side in order to let Luke have a go at the button. "But look at it this way: even if we manage to keep the air systems on, it won't help us out unless we've got enough food to keep our systems running."

When he twists the tap, a section of the bar top slides forward to expose a terminal! It is a foot wide and looks like it can be removed from its holder. But the screen starts to glow white, then changes to show a field of stars. But that soon turns black with when simple white letters appear that read:

"To access this terminal, your choice is a simple one: A or B.

"Answer correctly, and you may proceed.

"Answer incorrectly, and you may not live long enough to regret it.
"

Then two buttons appear onscreen, one with a bright A on it and a B on the other. Both wait patiently for a decision to be made.

So half of his worry gets to come back again. Great. At least they'll be able to eat for a little while.

Luke waits until the other button is located and uncovered before pressing the one in front of him. All the while thinking about breathing and how it's unusual to think so hard about breathing.

The knocking aside of papers doesn't yield anything, unfortunately, except for papers the Sheriff will have to pick up at some point. If he comes back, that is.

But there is something they will see. It's subtle, but between the cracks of one of the filing cabinet drawers, there's a soft glow that can be seen. If someone tries to pull it open, she'll discover that it isn't latched and is, indeed, the object that clicked open a few minutes before.

At the first prickles of vanilla sparkles in her vision, Terezi turns her attention immediately towards that direction and will be that person who's opening the cabinet. She's not going to take her time here with herself and everyone else's lives on the line.

Hawk comes over from the other side of the room to take a look, frowning at the screen. "A or B? …was that meant to be a hint?" He taps his fingers against the counter, thinking.

"…If what it showed is a clue, then… A seems like the better option." He spread out one hand. "That seems more like life, right?"

[Sophie does wait to hear from everyone else that the six terminals have been found. she stays in the Malt Shop, though, afraid that the terminal will disappear if she turns her back for even a moment. and finally, when it's time, she presses the button]

Once the cabinet is open, the glow from within reveals a terminal! It is a foot wide and looks like it can be removed from the holder that's propping it up. The screen itself shows a field of stars, but that soon turns black with simple white letters that read:

"Answer correctly, and you may proceed.

"Answer incorrectly, and you may not live long enough to regret it.

"Yeah, A sounds... yeah."

Willis bites his lip for a moment as he looks between the two buttons. Really, he's not a fan of either button. A choice dictating whether you may or may not live? He's not a fan. At all.

"Well, here goes nothing."

Button A, you are getting pressed.

The chosen button flashes for a few seconds, then the whole screen goes black as though it were thinking...

It's black for a good minute before another screen appears that reads:

"To reset Life Support systems, press when ready."

Then a single button appears, waiting to be pressed. It seems the terminal won't say whether the choice was right or wrong. But once the button is ready to be pressed, it will work without fail.

[ooc: To make things easier, we can assume Willis and Hawk waited for the others to find their terminals before they pressed it.]

"Lives on the line and you..." Mu cut his thought, looking back at the options. Fifty-fifty to restore the air, and god only knew what the other option was.

After only a moment of hesitation, he pressed A

The Doctor rose his eyebrows at the terminal, a contemplative look on his face. "Well, that's it then?" he wondered out loud. "How anti-climactic." And yes, he sounded very disappointed. There wasn't even a countdown--well, not one he could visibly see at the mo'. So, he stood up, dusting his knees off, and said, "Hopefully the others have found their's by now. I'll leave button duty to you again, hmm?"

Mu resisted a sigh of relief. He turned to the Doctor instead and nodded. "I'll leave you to coordinate timing with the others?"

He smiled faintly and said, "I will do." His hand went up to his CAT, turning it on to contact Croix and the others, and when it was time, he got the go-ahead and nodded for Mu to press the button.

Through his peripheral vision, Mu caught the nod and tapped the button. He hoped this worked - the stress was no good for oxygen consumption, after all.

And that would be Willis about to take a deep breath of relief, and then remembering about the air problem, stopping himself short, and nearly choking on it. Alright, they've got this. Nothing exploded, or jumped out to strangle them, or anything equally horrific.

Just another button to press - and Willis is considerably more okay with pressing buttons when it doesn't feel like impending doom.

"... That went better than I thought it would."

Choices A and B. Somehow, when she reads this after the terminal opens up with it's shiny, delicious colors all over, it makes Terezi become reminded of a certain choice at a different place, and time. The consequences of them were much the same: Choose the right one or die.

However hard Terezi had searched, she only came upon two choices she could take, and that was either to stay her hand or to stab someone she once called her sister in the back. She had looked very far and quickly into the possibilities, but they all, for some confounded reason ended up only resulting in two outcomes. She didn't understand how that could be possible, but she hadn't the time to have think any further, or even discover the one possible outcome where she didn't have to do one of those two. One in which she could have still stopped Vriska, without her ending up dead on the floor, and one in which she could have every one of her friends live.

The moment she moved towards a choice, her finger hovered over the secondary of the choices. However, a flash of outcomes flashed before her eyes as if she had real sight again, only this time she didn't have to decide whether or not she had to kill anyone.

Paradox space has spoken.

Terezi chooses A.

Leaf won't wait around and she presses the button as soon as she can. Hopefully, that will be a enough.

She doesn't want to think about what will happen if it's not for a number of reasons, the most important being that she doesn't want to die at all. "H-Hopefully... If not..."

She casts a glance in the direction that she last saw her natu, eyes narrowing with a dark scowl. Of all the times not to have taught the thing teleport. She shakes her head - she'll have time to look through the TM's she has later.

Meru simply stares up at the screen in front of them; a scowl slowly forms on her face as she scans the words a few times over. Then she turns to Flynn, arms poised to flail, but she stops mid-movement - her companion is fiddling with his CAT.

He speaks into it and Meru stands on her tiptoes, peering over his shoulder as she listens to his conversation with a man who appears before them. She doesn't recognize him, but holds her tongue and the questions she's dying to ask, as they both seem very serious at the moment.

As the CAT is turned off and the man disappears, she taps Flynn on the shoulder - not moving from her position an inch. "So! You said 'A.' For AIR, right?!" Meru cracks a smile, getting tired of all this seriousness and tension due to the crisis.

"But... WAIT! 'B' is for BREATHE!" She runs over to the screen, her arms [obviously] flailing. "Which do we choooOOooose?!" Bothered, she puts her hands on her hips and glares hard at the screen thing.

"Weeeellllllll, he said it's a 50/50 chance, right? And they stand for AIR and BREATHE so how do we DECIDE?????" Cue flailing. "UGH. Whatever, I'm just going to do it liiiiiiiiiiiiiiike--" She squeezes her eyes shut and lifts her hand, deciding to choose at random, and hits the screen, "THIS!!"

Slowly, she eases one eye open... only to see that her hand landed directly between the two options.

'A' for air? That's something he hadn't thought about.

Flynn turned his head to answer Meru, but then noticed that she was right there and let out an involuntary yelp, jumping away from her. But it was a moot action as the girl immediately ran for the screen, still full of way more energy than Flynn was willing to accept should be doled out to a single person.

After Meru continued her flailing and tried (and failed) to make a decision, Flynn squared his shoulders and stepped up to the terminal -- fake terminal... whatever it was.

Well, from what he understood, there wasn't a good way to make this decision. He'd like to know what everyone else was choosing, but time would be running out and if he ever wanted to see Rapunzel again, decisive steps needed to be taken. He couldn't stand there and agonize over the choice.

And besides: Flynn really wasn't one for agonizing over anything.

"Well, here goes." Flynn offered Meru a half smile, quirking an eyebrow. "If it makes you feel better, as far as I know, I've never unintentionally killed anyone. So my track record isn't that bad."

Without waiting for any other input, Flynn reached past the girl to hit the "A" choice.

Time to see how that 50/50 shot had gone...
