Older siblings are exhausting.
Characters: Fuu and Jamie
Location: Luministi Greens East B6 (Jamie's place)
Time: Late afternoon of the last day of the Festival
Summary: Jamie is being a protective big brother to Fuu.
Warnings: Nothing~
Fuu absently lines all of the green beans on her plate into neat rows, her mind not really on the food, for all that her new way of cooking them had turned out quite well. Her mind is more on tonight, on the festival, and on how Hawk had asked her to come with him. Her face unconsciously flushes at the thought, and her free hand smooths the hem of her new green summer dress over her knees.
"So, what are you doing tonight?" she asks cheerfully.

Her mind is more on tonight, on the festival, and on how Hawk had asked her to come with him. Her face unconsciously flushes at the thought, and her free hand smooths the hem of her new green summer dress over her knees.
"So, what are you doing tonight?" she asks cheerfully.

Her question caught his attention, and he looked up just in time to see her flush, his fork suspended in mid-air. He took that in, saw her smooth out her dress, and his eyes narrowed a little, thoughtfully. Was that new?
But the expression on his face was gone as quickly as it came, replaced by a bit of a crooked smile. "Aye, well, the band's scheduled to play at the Talon. And I thought I might stop by and visit Janet. She's supposed to be working the Malt Shoppe's booth again. How about ye? Do ye have any plans?"
no subject
She trails off and pops a forkful of beans into her mouth. She is glad that Hawk had asked her, but she doesn't really know what to expect.
no subject
Once he swallows them, however, that's a whole other story. "Oh, aye? And he's not said what sorts of things he cares to do to ye?"
no subject
"No, but maybe he wants to keep it a surprise!" She doesn't mind small surprises like this.
no subject
"Look, Fuu. I'm not so sure I like the sounds of that. He'd not said anything else at all, just that he wants to go to the carnival with ye?"
no subject
"Yes, that's all he's said. Why?" It's not like they would go anywhere else when there are so many fun things to do at the festival.

He looks at her for a long moment, still frowning - although it's not directed at her. She's his sister, and maybe he's being overprotective, but he doesn't want to see her getting hurt. At the same time, he doesn't really want to blurt out his suspicions, especially since they may be wrong. Hawk's never struck him as one of 'those' type of men, after all.
"Have the two of ye ever been on a date together before?"
no subject
"No, no... I don't know that it's a date-"
no subject
Forgive your brother for not being so sure about that, Fuu. That was a very interesting reaction you just had just now. The frown eases up some, but the thoughtful look that's replaced it might not be much better.
"Do you want it be a date?"

Really, he's figured this out even before she stuffs her mouth full of vegetables, but that makes it even clearer - at least to him. So he decides he's going to let her have her silence for a few minutes, going back to finishing his own, although he chooses a less spectacular method of doing so. And it gives him some time to think about things, too.
Once it looks like she's nearly done chewing, he glances up at her - then says offhandedly, "Ye know. Ye could do worse than Hawk for a date, come to think about it."
no subject
With a little grin she looks up and asks, "who are you thinking of?"
no subject
Brian's a good musician, and they get along fine, but he has an eye for the ladies a little too much. Jamie doesn't want his sister to wind up with someone like that at all.
"Him I'd not let get within a mile of ye, not if I could help it."
Hawk, at least, seems like a good guy from the few times they've talked. And so long as it's just a date...well. Jamie can live with that. Anything serious would be another matter, but he's not going to worry about that at this point.
"Then again, I think you've much better judgement than that anyway. I do trust ye there, ye know."
no subject
"Just there?" she teases. But as she rises from the table and passes him she lightly touches his shoulder and whispers, "thank you."
no subject
"You're welcome. Come on, I'll help ye with the dishes before I head to practice."
